Greetings! In 1996, I was a practicing attorney and decided to obtain my California brokers license since I was investing in real estate. Since all of the course work to become a broker is offered in law school, the brokers exam is offered to all California attorneys who pass the State Bar.
Right when I began investing in 1996, the Rodriguez family, long time legal clients, asked me to sell their home of over 30 years, since they were moving permanently to their Tahoe vacation home. Ralph was excited because I agreed to handle the whole deal for a reasonable flat fee which saved him a small fortune compared to a 6% commission. I was incredibly excited since it was a fun way for me to utilize my skills and educational background and great paycheck anyway you look at it. During law school, I took extensive course work in real property, contract law, real property security, and a variety of other subjects which made the transition into a real estate brokerage practice relatively seamless.
